High Water
Acrylic on canvas 24 x 30

The water level in Lake of the Woods in the spring of 2014 was the highest it had been since the flood of 1950, and it stayed that way all summer.  This painting shows the water encroaching on the forest floor.

Old Pine
Acrylic on canvas  24 x 36

I love painting trees, especially those with character. This one has lots of it.

After the Storm
Acrylic on canvas  20 x 34

A typical scene on Lake of the Woods after a summer storm has passed. The sun is beginning to poke through a break in the clouds, illuminating the distant hills.

Quiet Evening
Acrylic on canvas 24 x 24

Backlit white pines are reflected dramatically in the foreground water.  I find myself leaning more often to a square format even though it is not a usual choice for landscapes.

Sunset
Acrylic on canvas  16 x 20

I wanted to capture the setting sun streaming across this swampy opening in the forest. Dealing effectively with all that green was a challenge.

Cedar Forest
Acrylic on canvas  20 x 24

Cedar forests are magical.  This is one of many in the Snake Bay area of Lake of he Woods.  The forests are open,  the ground soft and spongy, and the trees often take on mysterious shapes.  We spent several days parked in the houseboat on this one and enjoyed many peaceful walks under the cedar canopy.

Summer morning on the trail
Acrylic on canvas 16 x 20

A beautiful spot on one of our snowshoe trails. Of course the colours are not really as brilliant as this but this more accurately communicates how I feel about it when I walk through it on a foggy summer morning.

Magical Island
Acrylic on Canvas 16 x 24

This is an island located in upper Whitefish Bay near Twin Islands.  It is a very small island with some interesting rock formations and one lonely White Pine that has lost its top.  It sits out in the open away from, but surrounded by a lot of larger islands.  Because of its position, it can be seen from a lot of locations which often fools me into thinking that there must be two similar islands.
