Lone Pine
Oil and Acrylic on canvas  16 x 24

I have long been entranced by this little island in Whitefish Bay, Lake of the Woods. It's one lone, unusually shaped, white pine along with the rock formations make it stand out.  This was a very hot, humid, summer day.

Misty Evening
Oil on canvas  24 x 24

A cool, misty evening on Brule Bay,  Lake of the Woods. I wanted to capture the yellow and blue green foliage of pine tree contrasted against the calm cerulean blue water.

View from 622
Acrylic on canvas  16 x 24

Road 622 takes you south from the Trans Canada highway to Atikokan through beautiful, rugged, Northern Ontario.  Along the way the road builders took advantage of a high gravel ridge giving the traveller a beautiful view over the hills and small lakes.
Dealing effectively with all that green was a bit of a challenge.

Evening Camp
Acrylic on canvas 16 x 20

I painted this for my son Warren, and inveterate canoeist,  on the occasion of his $%th birthday.

Storm over Long Bay
Oil on canvas 16 x 24

This, minus a few trees, is the view from our front deck on Long Bay, Lake of the Woods.  The view, especially in the summer months, is ever changing and we are often blessed with beautiful cloud displays.

Autumn Walk
Oil on canvas 16 x 24

Two dear old friends on an autumnal walk.  She was an artist and an extraordinary story teller. I painted this the year after she passed away.  The setting seemed to symbolize the path she was on,  being pushed slowly from summer to autumn.  She is missed.

Rocks # 1
Acrylic on canvas  16 x 24

Rock-cuts often display interesting shapes and colours.   These colours are admittedly intensified in order to achieve a semi-abstract result.

Rocks # 2
Oil on panel   16 x 24

Another rock-cut painting. Done with a painting knife.

Rocks # 3
Acrylic on canvas 16 x 24

Delicate, colourful ferns set off against a cool hard, rocky background.

Bassin' for Bucks 2014
 Acrylic on canvas 12 x 20

Day three of the Sioux Narrows,  2014 Bassin' for Bucks tournament.  Thick fog delayed the third day start by almost an hour. This was the first boat past the starting line, hitting nearly 60 miles per hour by the time it got around the corner and under the bridge.

Bassin' for Bucks weigh-in, 2015
Acrylic on canvas – 16 x 24

At the end of the day the fishing teams arrive back at the Sioux Narrows dock to have their catch weighed.  After the weigh-in the fish are released back into the lake in various locations.

This painting illustrates part of the process as three teams are having their catch bagged to be taken to the weigh-in location. Other teams await their turn in the background.

Dealing with the catch of 120 teams quickly and efficiently is not easy but the exceptionally smooth way in which the Bassin’ for Bucks volunteers manage it is truly impressive.
